the vulnerable humanitarian - navigating moral injury and moral courage (circle of practice) | pay what you can

I’m honored to join Gemma Houldey’s Circle of Practice to offer a grounding reflection on how to stay rooted in moral courage while moving through the spaces between betrayal and integrity, extraction and care, and disillusionment and repair. Gemma is the author of The Vulnerable Humanitarian and an extraordinary human who has been running this circle of practice since 2021 when she published her book. Here’s a conversation Gemma and I had on my podcast, Service Without Sacrifice, on how we can continue to show up in dark times to do the work the world needs us to do now, more than ever. The circle of practice is open to anyone working in the humanitarian sector in need of a space for mutual support, gentle participatory learning, and meaningful connection.

from rupture to rise—transforming pain into purpose in life’s threshold moments (workshop) | FREE

What if the moments that break us open are actually invitations to rise into who we're meant to become? Join me for a free workshop exploring how life's most difficult threshold moments—job loss, relationship changes, health challenges, identity shifts—can become gateways to deeper purpose and authentic living through story-healing.

📍 Wednesday, June 18 | 4pm–5:30pm EST | online via zoom

I’m grateful for the opportunity to join a panel discussion hosted by Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers about a topic that is near and dear to my heart—vicarious trauma in the legal profession. Attorneys are frequently exposed to the trauma of others—through client stories, case files, and legal advocacy—which can result in vicarious trauma, the emotional and psychological residue of being exposed to the pain and suffering of others. This webinar will explore how vicarious trauma impacts legal professionals, offer practical guidance for managing its effects, and hear from those with lived experience.

/the space between/ (coaching + collective care circle) $295-$495 - payment plans available

In the wake of the dismantling of federal agencies and USAID by the current regime, this moment has left many who built careers rooted in mission, justice, and care asking:

Who am I now?
What does service look like from here?
And how do I find my footing in the aftermath of it all?

🌿 Introducing: /the space between/

As we navigate through this moment of polycrisis, it’s natural to feel disoriented or uncertain about what comes next. /the space between/ offers a place to land—rooted in empathy, connection, collective care, and clarity. This isn’t about fixing yourself. It’s about tending to what’s been lost, reclaiming what still holds true, and rising into a new way of being. Cohort 1 launches July 15.

calls for stories + lived experiences

understanding the impact of the aid funding crisis on humanitarian health + well-being

Rebecca Dempster, Gemma Houldey and I recently put out a survey to the humanitarian sector exploring how the dismantling of programs and institutions as well as recent funding cuts have impacted those in humanitarian, development, and aid work — not just professionally, but more holistically in all the ways that matter: mentally, physically, relationally, spiritually. In addition to understanding the impacts, we also want to get a sense of how best to support individuals and organizations in the sector. If you’re in the humanitarian sector we’d love to hear from you to ensure our response is informed by your concerns and experience, and please share with others who would find this helpful too. The survey will take 3-5 minutes to complete and is anonymous.

exploring how love and care can serve as catalysts for survival and resistance in liminal spaces

I'm working on a new project that explores how those tending to the world's wounds sustain themselves and others through acts of love and care—for strangers, for land, and for self, in the space between trauma and healing, burnout and rest, extraction and resistance, grief and joy, seen and unseen. Through narratives and spiritual ecology, the project aims to show how love serves as a catalyst for survival and resistance in the liminal spaces within dehumanizing and oppressive systems.

You can contribute by writing a love letter from your liminal space, sharing your story through an interview, or both. To learn more about the project and contribute just click on the button below.

If you'd like to learn more about my exploration into liminal spaces and thresholds, check out this essay.

free resource + facilitation guides

Our ancestors knew that gathering in community was fundamental to survival. Across cultures and generations, Indigenous and other marginalized communities have modeled this through story circles—spaces for witnessing, reflection, and shared truth. As research evolves, it continues to affirm what these traditions have always known: peer support and opportunities for authentic connection are not luxuries in the workplace—they are necessities. They help cultivate trust, empathy, psychological safety, and moral alignment. They build the foundation for teams that can thrive, even amidst uncertainty and grief. This rooted in community facilitation guide is a starting point for creating rooting circles. It’s designed to help you create brave spaces for your team or community—a gentle framework for practicing presence, listening deeply, and co-creating belonging. You don’t have to be an expert to begin. You only need a willingness to show up with care.

Looking for support to start meaningful conversations about mental health at work? I’ve created a series of free resource guides and talking points for leaders on topics like vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, moral injury, and grief—with more coming soon. Each guide includes background context, sample language, and prompts to help foster trust, connection, and psychological agency. These aren’t scripts—they’re starting points. Use them to open up honest, human conversations in the spaces you lead. And if there’s a topic you’d like to see covered, just hit reply and let me know. I’d love to hear from you.
