welcome to your sacred sunday pause
/rōot/ awakenings post # 1
Welcome to /rōot/ awakenings, your weekly invitation to pause, turn inward, and connect more deeply with yourself, and the world around you.
In this brave space I invite you to set aside the noise of the world, even for just 15-20 minutes, and give yourself the gift of presence and reflection—if it helps, think of it as a new Sunday self-care practice. Each week, I’ll share prompts designed to spark introspection and cultivate a sense of grounding, connection, and healing.
how to make the most of this space
For me, self-care is about creating and engaging in practices that support and soothe my nervous system because I know that when my nervous system is regulated, I’m more adaptable and resilient in the face of uncertainty and adversity. I’ve found that creating the conditions to feel safe, calm, and present go a long way in supporting me in this practice. With that in mind, here are a few suggestions to help you make the most of this space:
- If it’s possible, find a quiet, comfortable spot where you can be undisturbed.
- Bring along a notebook and pen—or whatever feels best for capturing your thoughts.
- Light a candle, grab a cup of coffee or tea, and create a ritual around this time to honor yourself.
- Let go of any expectations and allow yourself to free-write, letting the words flow naturally without worrying about grammar, punctuation, or what anyone will think.
Since /rōot/ by dimple dhabalia is a new publication, it feels meaningful to start with the theme of rooting and grounding—an essential practice for finding stability and connection during times of change.
why rooting matters
In moments of uncertainty, we can often feel unmoored, like leaves in the wind, carried by forces beyond our control. Rooting offers a way back to our foundation, creating a sense of inner steadiness even when the external world feels chaotic.
To root is to reconnect—with ourselves, our values, and our sources of strength. It reminds us of our deep interconnection: with the earth, with one another, and with the wisdom that lies within.
Rooting or grounding practices anchor us in the present, steady our emotions, and cultivate a sense of safety. When we’re grounded, we’re better equipped to meet adversity and challenges with greater clarity and purpose, rather than reacting out of fear or uncertainty.
this week’s reflection prompts
Choose the prompt that resonates most with you. Set a timer for 15-20 minutes, and then close your eyes or lower your gaze and take three deep breaths through your nose and exhaling through your mouth, before opening your eyes or lifting your gaze and starting. Let your thoughts flow freely. As you write, notice what’s happening in your body in response to any memories or insights that arise through the process.
- In this moment of uncertainty and change, how grounded do you feel? What emotions are surfacing, and how might you root yourself to navigate them?
- When anger or pain arises, what helps you reconnect to a sense of grounding? Are there specific places, practices, or people that anchor you during difficult times?
- If your current emotional state were a tree, how deep do your roots feel right now? What might help strengthen them or bring nourishment to your foundation?
Once you’re done, feel free to click the comment button at the top or bottom of this post (next to the heart, which you’re welcome to click, too!) and share your biggest takeaways from today’s reflection. If you’re not quite ready to share yet, that’s perfectly fine. You can still connect with others by responding to what they’ve shared. If we let it, this collaborative space of rooting can blossom into a place where we cultivate community and support each other, even as we nurture self-awareness and self-compassion to support ourselves.
one final thought
As you take time to root yourself today, know that this sacred pause is an act of self-love and care. It’s a way to honor your journey and the foundation that sustains you, even in the most uncertain times.
May this time be grounding, nourishing, and exactly what you need.
In solidarity + gratitude,
